Recent Examples of the Large Number of Species Traded Globally

Two items about wildlife trade got published online this week that caught my attention. This first one is a series of 26 photos that show species that were smuggled and seized before reaching their final destinations. These photos highlight that the wildlife trade is much more than just ivory and rhino horn.

The second piece is about the accelerating trend in wildlife trade as seen in the poaching of tigers in India. In the first four months of 2016 we have reached the total number of tigers poached in 2015. This is especially worse after the recent comments made by scientists about how the reports about an increasing tiger population are misleading. Meanwhile, other species are experiencing similar trends.
